| Personal History | Perrine was born Pierrette-Henriette Clostermann on February 28, 2349 to Gaston and Marie (nee DuBois) Clostermann at Chateau Clostermann, the Clostermann family's estate and vineyard outside Le Havre, France. The eldest of four children fathered by Gaston and of the two in his marriage to Marie. From a young age, Pierrette's mother Marie wasn't as committed to the eternal promise of "till death do us part" that her husband was, and the adultery that she committed caused a lot of friction with Gaston as well as great trauma to their young daughter. In 2359, when Pierrette was ten, her younger brother, Jean-Claude, was born. Gaston was hoping that having another baby would save his marriage to Marie. Unfortunately, just thirteen months into Jean-Claude's life, Gaston and Marie's marriage finally imploded. Marie had initially taken Pierrette and Jean-Claude with her, but Gaston had sought an appeal, and the rather ugly custody battle that ensued caused young Pierrette further stress. In 2361, during the ongoing custody battle with his ex-wife Marie, Gaston married Flore de la Valliere, a woman from the Mont Blanc region in the south of France. From early on, Flore didn't care one bit about Pierrette or Jean-Claude, with Pierrette's new stepmother viewing her more as a "tiny indentured servant" rather than a daughter to love. With her and Jean-Claude's bad treatment, Pierrette grew to dislike Flore in kind, and took it upon herself to protect her little brother who could barely comprehend what was happening whenever they were visiting with Gaston and Flore. Due to her parents separating, Perrine's education from when she was eleven was a mix of private tutoring at Chateau Clostermann and attending public school in Le Havre. It was during the latter of these that Perrine made some of her first friends outside Chateau Clostermann, and they came to coin a nickname that would change Pierrette's life, for the nickname "Perrine" that her new friends had coined for her was more than just a cool nickname in Pierrette's eyes, it was an act of rebellion. A way to shed the shackles that she was bound in by her birth name. In March of 2367, after her 18th birthday, Pierrette would legally change her name to Perrine. She hoped that changing her name from the stupid name her mother assigned to her at birth would change her stepmother's views of her, but alas, nothing changed. Flore still reviled her and Perrine detested Flore in kind. Especially after young Jean-Claude's diagnosis with a developmental disorder which Perrine squarely blamed her stepmother for. Following graduation, Perrine found that some of her friends had applied for Starfleet. They had encouraged Perrine to do the same. However, Flore forbade Perrine from applying for Starfleet, as Perrine being in Starfleet would mean no more indentured servant to fill her needs, as she viewed Perrine's "disabled" brother as "practically useless." So, reluctantly, Perrine saw her friends off to Starfleet Academy while she remained in France. Perrine's chance with Starfleet didn't come until 2370, after she had turned 21. Keeping in contact with her friends in Starfleet, Perrine had studied for and taken the Academy entrance exam in secret, and told her father about her passing grade in confidence. Gaston understood his daughter's need to get out from under his wife's thumb, and respected Perrine's decision to join Starfleet. At Starfleet Academy, Perrine demonstrated a keen tactical prowess, impressing her instructors, who noted that she was "future flagship material." It was no surprise, then, that as her Academy tenure progressed, she further specialized in the Tactical field. |
