Mission:
Back in the Saddle
Location: Chateau Clostermann - Normandy, France
The evening sun bathed the vineyards of Chateau Clostermann in a golden light. Light that shone through the windows of the ancestral home of the Clostermann family. For generations, the Clostermann family had called the sprawling estate home, continuing the tradition of winemaking in Normandy, France.
In the light of the golden hour, the whir of a transporter beam deposited onto the drive a young man in a Starfleet Cadet uniform. His single pip indicative of his Freshman grade. Dusting off his shoulders and running a hand through his hair, the young man stepped up towards the front doors of the house, tapping a key card to unlock the historic doors and pushing one of them aside.
"I'm home!" He called out as he stepped inside.
"Hello, baby boy!" A woman's voice greeted. "Leave the door unlocked for your brother, now."
"If anything, I need to be concerned about Martin locking me out." The young man quipped as he was hugged by his mother after closing the door.
"Well, still, never hurts to remind you, because you've done it to him in the past. Your father's cooking tonight; we're having fried potato skins." His mother explained.
"Sounds delicious." The young man licked his lips. "I can't wait to-!"
At that moment, the doorbell rang.
"Ooh, that's probably your brother now!"
The mother moved past her son to open the door. However, instead of finding her other son waiting for the door to be answered, she found on the other side of the door a strange man also dressed in a Starfleet uniform. His ranks indicated he was an officer rather than a cadet like her son, holding the rank of Lieutenant.
"Captain Clostermann?" The Lieutenant asked.
"Former Captain Clostermann, please. That life is one I left behind twenty three years ago." The woman insisted.
"A request that normally would be honored. However, given the circumstances, I've come with a request from 88th Fleet Command for you to resume your Starfleet service as soon as you're able."
"Lieutenant; surely there are younger officers in Junior Fleet that are ripe for promotion." Perrine explained. "What benefit would the Admiralty gain from an old relic like me coming out of retirement?"
"Perhaps it's best you ask that question to Command themselves:" The Lieutenant withdrew a portable holo-emitter.
Perrine sigbed.
"Well, you'd best come in." She opened the door further and motioned for the Lieutenant to come inside. "If I'm going to be postponing my retirement, Anatoly deserves to know as well."
"I appreciate it." The Lieutenant replied with a nod, stepping inside.
Upon seeing the Lieutenant enter, the cadet immediately assumed he was in trouble:
"This was pre-planned in accordance with leave regulations, I swear!" He quickly spluttered, raising his hands.
The Lieutenant chuckled in response.
"At ease, Cadet Clostermann." He assured the cadet. "My business here is with your mother, and maybe your father, too. We'll have to see."
